Antipodes

On Tuesday's "the show with zefrank" video podcast, Zefrank wished for an Earth sandwich. (What's that? Obviously, it's a slice of bread, the Earth, and another slice of bread.) Such a sandwich would only be legit if the pieces of bread were exactly opposite each other, place on antipodal points on the Earth's surface. He even released a Google maps hack to allow you to search for antipodes yourself. (Unfortunately, Google maps doesn't show Ile Amsterdam, which is one of the few U.S. antipodal points available.)

Good luck making your sandwich!

Images in Gmail and Google Talk

A little while ago, Google Talk implemented user images, and Gmail is now rolling out the same functionality. If you attempt to upload an image using the Gmail settings panel, Google warns you: "You can upload a JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG file. (Do not upload pictures containing celebrities, nudity, artwork or copyrighted images.)"

That's a problem for me. Why? Because, as my vast blog reader base knows, I am a celebrity, and am therefore prohibited from uploading my own picture. Man, it's not easy being famous.

Google Trends

Google released a new tool that lets you graph trends in search term popularity over the last few years. It's fun; try to guess the what the graph looks like before you click:
But perhaps the most vexing question is: what the hell is going in in Rochdale, UK? (Via reddit)

Pendulumeca

The screenshot of Pendulumeca doesn't look like much, but this flash game from Japan sure is addictive. You control a little robot, but the goal is to swing like spiderman without falling on the spikes.

It takes a few games to develop the technique, so don't give up. I've gotten to level 4 with a score above 2000, at which point the ceiling tiles begin to become very sparse. Good luck!

Update: Just a warning: you will be killed by a laggy interface at some point. Such is life.

Good Morning America: Tracing Your Roots

My friend Matt got involved in the "Chinese American history and genealogy program" known as "In Search of Roots". He was on Good Morning America today, and I put the video up on YouTube. If you watch carefully, my sister makes a cameo.

The time is now 1:02:03 5/4/06

Or as they say in Europe, 1:02:03 4/5/06. Once again, I stayed up for it. C'est magnifique!

Arthursmacked

Arthur Magazine interviews current chart-topping band Godsmack. Excerpt:

Arthur Magazine: I’M NOT TELLING PEOPLE TO GO JOIN THE MILITARY AND THEN NOT KNOWING WHAT THE MILITARY IS DOING.

Godsmack: I don’t tell people to go join the military!!

YOU DON’T THINK USING YOUR SONGS –THE POWER OF YOUR MUSIC, WHICH YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT—HAS AN EFFECT ON THE PEOPLE THAT HEAR IT WHEN IT GOES WITH THE VISUALS THAT THE BEST P.R. PEOPLE IN THE WORLD USE?!

Oh man, are you like one of those guys that agrees with some kid that fuckin’ tied a noose around his neck because Judas Priest lyrics told him to?

YOU WERE TELLING ME HOW POWERFUL YOUR MUSIC WAS, AND WHAT AGE THE PEOPLE ARE THAT LISTEN TO IT. AND YOU MUST HAVE THOUGHT, ‘WELL THE NAVY SURE THOUGHT IT WAS USEFUL.’ SO YOU TELL ME.

It only gets better from there. (via Firedoglake)

Athlon Dual Core

I just installed a new Athlon dual core processor in my system. It seems a lot faster, especially after I set processor affinity to dedicate one processor to Flash ads, and one to everything else.

Just kidding, there is no such setting! But that's probably what's happening anyway.

I almost missed Loyalty Day!

Holy crap, nobody told me today was Loyalty Day, the most Orwellian of all holidays!
