Antipodes

On Tuesday's "the show with zefrank" video podcast, Zefrank wished for an Earth sandwich. (What's that? Obviously, it's a slice of bread, the Earth, and another slice of bread.) Such a sandwich would only be legit if the pieces of bread were exactly opposite each other, place on antipodal points on the Earth's surface. He even released a Google maps hack to allow you to search for antipodes yourself. (Unfortunately, Google maps doesn't show Ile Amsterdam, which is one of the few U.S. antipodal points available.)

Good luck making your sandwich!

It seems like our planet has been to designed to make an Earth Sandwich very hard achieve. The antipode of almost every piece of land is water. The only really good chunk is a slice of China and Southeast Asia opposite to South America. There are also small areas with New Zealand to Spain, and Antarctica to the tops of Canada, Greenland and Russia.

Good eating.
