Fire in the hills

At around five o'clock, my cell phone rang. A friend was calling to let me know that the hills behind my apartment were burning.

Even though the occasional helicopter passes overhead, it seems like the fire is mostly under control, thanks to favorable wind conditions.

Silica Gel Packets

Here's a handy tip for saving money on food: You know those silica gel packets that are tucked into packaging for electronic devices--the ones that say "DO NOT EAT"? That implies that everything else in the box not labeled as "DO NOT EAT" is safe to eat. BON APPÉTIT!

WWII and the Wii


I've heard that the Godzilla movies show that Japan is obsessed with World War II. But it just occurred to me that the weird name for Nintendo's latest game system, the WII, might show the same preoccupation.
