My latest eBay craze.
I've been selling a bunch of old Star Wars Lego kits on eBay. It takes a surprising amount of my creative energy to write up the descriptions, so that's why I've been on a blogging lull for the last few days. Prior to this latest craze, I had used eBay a few times, but now that I'm becoming a regular user, I've discovered two things:- eBay's interface kinda sucks. Actually, that's a little harsh, but it's becoming clear to me they became successful mostly because of the network effect of having a large auction site, and not because of the quality of their interface. Lots of other folks agree.
- The post office will deliver free shipping supplies (like boxes) to your mailbox. Better yet, you can get co-branded USPS/eBay boxes. You can even get a 11"x8.5"x5.5" flat-rate priority mail box that costs $7.70 to ship anywhere in the country, regardless of weight (up to 70 lbs)! That's a maximum density of 3767.8 kg / m^3. Solid aluminum weighs about 2700 kg / m^3. You could fill the box with solid aluminum and it would weigh 52.5 lbs, and it would still only cost you $7.70 to ship across the country. Awesome!
